Fortune-teller and the Great Unknown

04/06/05

There are many unexplainable incidents happen to our life everyday. From time to time, we feel like we are walking down this road of life without any lights; we do not know where we are; we do not see things ahead of us; we do not know what we will meet on the way. Eventually, we are lost and scared of walking down this road.

Therefore, most of people would love to know what will happen to their life in the future.

Fortune-tellers have become a medium between those people and the great unknown.

Suffering in life with those basic problems such as money, relationship, health and career, people are seeking for answers from the fortune-tellers. The answers can be something to tell us what to do in our life because we do not have any choices in hands or we do have too many choices that we cannot make a decision.

I, actually, find it amazing that some fortune-tellers I met were very accurate.

I remember they told me that I would end up living aboard. I did not believe when I first heard it. It was kind of laughable for me because firstly, I never thought of leaving my country at all; secondly, I did not have money period. However, a year later, I did come to the United States for my business school.

Although I know that it was my freewill of choosing to come here or to stay with my family, the environment created the situations that led me here.

The last time I went back to Thailand, my friends suggested me to seek the fortune-tellers’ advice about my future. I was thinking about it. However, I decided not to seek any kinds of advice from them.

Lately, I happen to love the beauty of the great unknown. I love the sense of mystery. I think life would be so unadventurous if we know what will happen next (let’s assume that those fortunetellers are quite accurate).

I do not want to know if I would be successful or failed because I believe if I work hard enough whatever will happen, I will not regret it.

I do not want to know if my relationship would grow or die down because relationship depends on two people. If I try my best, to grow or die is not that important. The most important thing is what I learn from it and how I will adapt it in the future.

From my experiences, fortune-tellers are more accurate about the past than the future because there are many factors that can affect the outcome of the future. I believe future and destiny can be changed with our good deeds, determinations and our own actions. It is like we can change our behavior tendency if we realize our problems and change them. We can change our financial situation if we work hard enough and save money. We can change our relationship, if we try to compromise, communicate and understand each other.

It is not easy, I know.

Right at this moment is the beginning of our future. Even though certain destiny might be waiting for us, with our determinations and good deeds, we will be able to turn that tide.

How much of our actions can change our future? That is the beauty of the great unknown.

I do believe good deeds will create good results. Therefore, I do not worry about what the future will be unfolded as long as I am trying to create good things in my life everyday.
