The End of Terrorism?

08/17/05

While I was waiting in the line at the post office, I heard a guy behind me talking loudly about his disapproval of Israeli Government’s decision to withdraw from Gaza Strip.

His argument was it did not make sense to move those people out of the Strip and hoped the peace between these two countries would be guaranteed.

I could not help but listen to his conversation; in fact, I believe everyone in the post office heard his conversation.

I just did not understand why he did not agree with that decision. The fact is that Israel captured Gaza Strip from Palestine 38 years ago. That incident has created the resentment and hatred among Muslim people towards Israeli and the West. Every generation of the Palestinian is willing to sacrifice their life in order to expel the infidels. As a result, at least 80% of the acts of terrorism today (before Iraq war) are related to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

This conflict has spilled over the entire global community. World Trade Center tragedy is one of a consequence of the conflict.

To return the Gaza Strip back to Palestine is the right and smart thing to do. At least, those extremists will have a smaller ground to claim the right of using the violence against Israel and the Western countries because Israeli has withdrawn the settlement from their lands.

The United States will share the cost of withdrawal around 500 million dollars. Is it worth it? I think it is. It costs the US much more when the World Trade Center was torn down and thousands of lives were lost in the act of terrorism.

Will the withdrawal of Israel guarantee the peace in the Middle East? Probably not, in particular, when Iraq has become a new hotbed for those terrorists and all resentments will shift from the Palestinian to the Iraqi.

However, at least, we have tremendously relieved the tension in that area.
