Hola Barcelona – Adios Barcelona
05/31/07
Good times always fly faster than realities can catch up. Finally, it’s our last day in this marvelously beautiful city. After the walkathon for the whole week and our feet are in severe pain, David and I agree to just take it very easy today.
We wake up at 3 pm. Gosh, I feel like we have wasted such a beautiful day. But I think we really need those 8 hours sleep since it’s been two nights in a row that our sleep schedule was messed up by night out dancing. Friday night at Salvation was not that fun but last night, we did have a blast. The crowd was like three times more than Friday night and the music was much better. There were two dance floors in Salvation. The first one was packed with twinkies and someone who loved very pop and vocal songs like Madonna, Paris Hilton and local Spanish songs. The second room was for hardcore party goers like me who love house, electronic and tribal music.
David bought a big bottle of Monet Champagne and drank the whole bottle within an hour. I guess no one ever did that before because the whole night, a club security kept coming to him and asking him if he finished the champagne yet. For me, I was a little drunk with just a glass of orange soda and vodka. At the middle of the night, we tore down the both dance floors.
And now we can barely walk.
Most of the clubs here are pretty small. There are no gigantic clubs like the one in New York City or London and one thing I do not like about clubbing here is people are allowed to smoke inside. And it seems to me every club goers here is a chain smoker. The massive amount of smoke inside Salvation almost choked me.
Since today is Sunday, most of stores are closed. So we are not in a hurry at all so after we freshen up, we walk to the pier, sit down and just enjoy the sun. Tons of tourists stomp around the Rambla; the street performers are everywhere. Our lovely last day is perfectly curtained with the outdoor opera near the Catedral de la Seu (the cathedral of Barcelona). Listening to opera right at the ancient cathedral when the sun is slowly saying goodbye to this beautiful city is my most beautiful moment for this trip.
It’s sad when we have to say goodbye to someone we love, and that’s what I feel when I realize that tomorrow I have to leave Barcelona. What makes this city so special is when all the beautiful scenery, spectacular architecture; wonderful culture and all classical music go in sync with each other and we cannot elaborate the beauty of one quality without referring to another one.
Goodbye Barcelona, I hope I will have a chance to see your beauty again soon.
