You Go GORE!!!

03/22/07

Today Gore returns to the Congress to testify about the Global Warming issue that a lot of Jurassic Republicans, in particular, who reside in Washington DC still believe that the whole issue is a hoax and it is a conspiracy between the Hollywood and the Weather Channel!!

And James Inhofe- a Senator from Oklahoma is one of them. He was a former chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and no wonder why the environmental policy of this country went backward since he became the chairman (actually since Bush has become a president). He has publicized his skeptics about this issue in the media and in the capital hill even the last day of his reign on this committee. He called An Inconvenient Truth as, “the greatest single hoax ever perpetrated on the American life” and “the most scientific propaganda in the world.”

I do not believe that there are some people on this planet who still do not believe in the Global Warming problem while all the evidence is so apparent. The ice caps from Alaska to the Kilimanjaro in Africa are receding in the unprecedented rate. The climate pattern has changed around the world and that affects the biodiversity and the ecology. The climate change also creates more draught and severe hurricane and monsoon almost in every part of the world. The icebergs in both North and South Pole are melting and many parts of the world including New York City and Bangkok, if nothing stops this man-made phenomenon, will be submerged.

What I can say even the President of the United States still does not believe it himself. While all of his friends in the first world has enlightened about the Global Warming problem, Bush has consistently refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol since the first day he stole the election from Al Gore with the excuses of not having enough scientific evidence, the impact on the American economy and other big polluters like China and India are not included.

Like Gore says today the US, the most powerful and richest country in the world, has to be a good example for those developing countries and the world community. Think about Bush’s argument for a minute, Bush went to Iraq anyway despite the objection of the whole world. He never said that the decision to go to war should include other countries.

The highlight of Gore’s testimony is when James Inhofe, the former chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and Barbara Boxer, Senator from California who is the new chairwoman for the committee exchange some harsh words.

When Inhofe tries to cut Gore out by not allowing him to elaborate his argument, Boxer steps in and asks Inhofe to stop and allows the former Vice-President to talk. Inhofe still keeps talking and tries to set the rule, Boxer slaps him down by saying, “oh you do not make a rule here anymore, I am a chairwoman now. You are still doing like you are a chairman and the election has passed.”

I throw my fist in the air. With my great amusement, I shout, “You go girl and you go GORE!!!”
