Mary Cheney Pregnant

12/08/06

Mary Cheney- a lesbian daughter of Dick Cheney, the vice-president of the United States- is pregnant with her partner. This bold act is like a big slap on the face for the Republican and all those hypocritical people who are residing in the churches.

Both sides are debating if it is right or wrong for her pregnancy without a father. I think the actual debate is “Is it right for any gay couples to bare and have their own children”?

The key argument of this anti-gay agenda is those children who will grow up in the family that do not have both mother and father will be screw-up kids in the future. In the media, they are chanting about that argument and citing some scientific researches. As a kid who grew up in a broken family myself, I think the whole argument is so nonsense. Besides my own belief of the personal responsibility of each kid to choose to be a good or bad person, the majority of children problems stem from those heterosexual couples who fall in love and fall out of love so quickly. Millions of heterosexual couples divorce and leave their children either to their mother, father, grandparents or to the government. Think about Britney Spear and her husband, heterosexual couple with two kids, now divorce. Can we say heterosexual relationship is the guarantee for healthy future of those kids?

The loving family is the key and it can come from different types of family setting. Kids who grow up either with their loving grandparent, relatives, a father and a mother, two fathers, two mothers or only one mother or father can be a good person if they are unconditionally loved by them. We all need love and love does not have to come from specific form of relationship. I think what the research says is that the kids who grow up having problems because they are deprived of love from their divorced parent, nothing has to do with two loving lesbians who are willing to dedicate themselves to their kids.

Plus, there are a lot of successful people and heroes who are brought up by a broken family. This is another argument that the religious groups are using to exclude the gay right from the society.
